Whats it all about then?

Basically, its another collection of pointless links mostly nicked from other blogs

Is That It?

Well, no, one day, I hope to break free from the bonds of having a day job and spend my time floating round the med, knocking up the occasional track for a cool label. Till then, this is my only outlet for my compositions. If you like Progressive tracks with nice breaks, you might like to listen you my latest, finished creation...well, actually, its my only *finished* creation, Celestial. Download the MP3, Or stream it.

The excellent vocals (in case you're wondering) were taken from a track by Loreena McKennitt called 'The Mystics Dream'.

One of the problems I have is actually finishing a track... No stamina y'see ;) I've got round this (sorta) by stuffing all my unfinished tracks into Acid and creating one long mix. Whilst unfinished, they also represent the best stuff I've produced to date...without sounding self-congratulatory, its easily as good as any of the other mixes...but just pure, homegrown Roguetrooper. Enjoy...(and play loud)
Clicky Streamy
Clicky downloady

The track I'm working on at the moment is a bit of a departure for me. Normally I don't like long intros, but the beginning to Gravity developed into this dark, broody soundscape. Its a full 4 mins till any proper percussion kicks in which sounds a long time, but its just right for the track (currently running at 12 mins). Anyway, you can Stream the MP3 hopefully... or download it(11Mb)

Heres what happens when you use Acid Pro as an mp3 sequencer..nearly an hour of beats n breaks. Have a listen to Methodical or download it. Want some more? heres another with Leftfield and Hybrid (to mention a few). You can download this too if you like.

Think I'm going to have to find a more permanent home for the mixes and stuff. judging by the amount of stuff I'm churning out of the Triton... Anyway, heres the Adam Freeland stuff mix from below on the blog...nice trancy, break filled mix that hardens somewhat towards the end when Joujouka arrive..However, its still only 135BPM and doesn't disrupt the flow too much...
Same as usual, you can stream it or download it...beware though, its 20Mb. Sounds best about 4am Sunday morning. Enjoy.

I was looking through my mp3 collection the other day and came across some depeche mode stuff I never realised I had. Perfect excuse to mix a few tracks up in acid and give the Basildon boys a breakbeat flavour. Its still a work in progress at the mo, but I've since discovered that DM and Breaks were made for each other. Have a listen and you'll hear what I mean. Download or Stream

Are you a country who's towns and cities are looking a bit delapidated and in need of a lick of paint or new rendering?

Then why not turn your leader into an evil dictator so you can get a lawless coalition to bomb the feck out of you before re-building your houses and shopping centres with nice, shiny modern stuff!

I went to pick Alex up from nursery yesterday and while waiting, I came across a bracelet-like toy made from small, coloured, jointed sections...I picked it up to have a look at it and found myself instantly hypnotised by its lovely tangly-ness..10 minutes later, Wendy had to virtually drag me away from it...They're ace. Very soothing and relaxing....definitely not just for kids.

You can order them from Tangletoys.com

Did you ever wonder *just* what the internet was capable of? Manic at bloggerheads, it would appear, does little else. Never one to rest on his laurels, he's come up with another 'Can Weblogs....?' project.

Scott at ultimateinsult is after a new job. Manic is one of his biggest fans, citing Scotts site as "the weblog that finally prompted me to get off my arse and stop feeding my discoveries and thoughts into Usenet and a range of web groups. It's thanks largely to Scott that I can now coordinate support for a wide range of people, companies or causes"

As a small token of his appreciation, hes decided to see if he can help Scott get the job he's after by getting him some exposure.. and what better way than getting loads of bloggers to link to your new project and send Scott shooting up to the top of every web diffusion index grabbing everyones attention on the way.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that this is Manics way of teaching the Raging Cow peeps a lesson in how to pool support from the blogging community to help market something...of course, I could be wrong there..

So..., the question this week is: Can Weblogs Get a Good Man a Great Job?

Its not often, but sometimes, the attitude of some people *really* pisses me off.

Last week, it was my mums partners 60th birthday. He's a top dude who's one of the most creative, funny, artistic, skilled, modest people I have the pleasure of knowing. So I was really looking forward to the get together... Actually, it was a quiet do really... Me, Wendy and Alex went round to my mums to wish him happy birthday, have a few drinks and give him his present (a book about Shackleton). They've been together for about 20 years now and hes like a 3rd grandad to Alex. He has 3 children of his own from a previous marriage. Annie, Nicola and Alistair.

Annie, the youngest in her early 20's has recently finished a teaching degree. However, Annie is very lazy and relied on her dad to produce any and every creative piece for her coursework. He helped write a lot of her essays and proof read / corrected her dissertation. Without the help from her dad, Annie would have undoubtedly failed her degree. Now, however, it appears that being a teacher is too stressful and too much like hard work so she's thinking of giving it up...nice one Annie.

Nicola is in her early 30s and a nurse. Despite this, she's a complete airhead who's incapable of anything other than....well, I can't think of anything actually...she can't even cook. She goes round to her mums and lets her do it. This is a girl who rang her dad up the other day because she wanted him to come round and remove a pair of knickers from the hoover that she's accidentally sucked up, blocking the hoover. She also once left a message on her dads answerphone asking to ring her urgently. As it turned out, all she wanted was the phone number for the local tandoori because she couldn't be arsed to look it up in the phone book.

Alistair, a social worker pretty much keeps himself to himself, but his wife is a cello playing weirdo who... well, I'll save him the embarrassment and not mention it.

All 3 of them are a total and utter waste of space. Not one of them bothered to get him a present, a card or even ring him to wish him happy 60th birthday. I doubt they even realised it was.

All 3 of them live within a few miles of their dad, but they never call round (unless they want something in Annies case)...and he hardly ever see's his grandchildren.

Annie, Nicola and Alistair...I have this to say to you.

You are without doubt the most horrible, selfish, thoughtless people I have ever had the misfortune to hear about.

Throughout his life, you dad has given you all the love, help and support he was capable of giving and you repay this by barley recognising he exists. Of course, I don't lay ALL the blame at you feet, some of it has to be attributed to your insane, god-bothering mother (also a nurse) who has obviously totally fucked your heads up. This is a woman who once picked all the apples from the tree in her front garden, piled them in her living room, then left them to rot for nearly a year.... A woman who thought microwaves cooked like normal ovens put a potato in on full power for an hour...This is a woman who works on a helpline, giving medical advice to people.

I don't consider myself a malicious person in any way, by I really hope your pathetic, miserable lives continue like that for years to come. I'm SO glad I've never met you and pray that we never will.

Rant over... feel much better....

The US Central Command website is mostly pro-war propoganda with loads of images of determined young American servicemen and women and articles about 'the truth behind Saddams use of oil for terror'...Zzzzz However, they also maintain a gallery of all the leaflets they've been dropping on Iraq which makes for some interesting reading, they've even imitated the middle-eastern poster naffness....I hope they used recycled paper :: CENTCOM Leaflet Gallery

There seems to have been a surge of interest in Edward Goreys 'The Gashlycrumb Tinies' this week on Blogdex, linking to this site but I can't understand why? Its not like its new to the net or anything. Its been around on the web for at least 5 years and its been here on Blogtrooper for months now...Still, if it means that more peeps are getting into Eds stuff, that can't be bad.... PS, my images are better ;o)

I really like Massive Attacks stuff, and their new album 100th Window is excellent. I was quite surprised (as I'm sure many were) when 3D was collared in connection with the current far-reaching police investigation into child pornography...as my mate Sonikhead put it... "Pete Townsend fair enough, but not our 3D"

Then I came across this in last Fridays edition of The Friday Thing and suddenly everything stated to make sense...

Its Wendys second day at work today and things are going pretty smoothly all in all. Getting up before 7am isn't proving to be as difficult as I thought it might thanks to Wendys new secret weapon, Alex.
While she's up and about doing what girls do in a morning (circa 6:30) she's started putting Alex in bed with me, *just* in range of my head, which he happily pounds away till I get up...neat trick Mrs T.

Bike-wise, I'm failing dismally using the excuse of accompanying Wendy to the nursery to drop Alex off in order to cadge a lift to work....Well, it *was* raining. On the plus side though, now that I can't go home for dinner, I'm only bringing to work a small, but sufficient lunch...and no change for the buttie/choccy/poppy machines.

Alex seems to be enjoying nursery and the girls that look after him say that he happily plays for most of the day without making a murmur. He seems to be trying to copy stuff we do too.

Wendy was giving him his tea the other night and blowing on the spoon as the butternut squash and potato she had made was a bit warm (butternut squash..... When I was his age, I was lucky to get shredded newspaper strained through an old sock for tea..I ask you...)

Anyway, Alex now thinks that this is the done thing when you put the spoon near his mouth. We're thinking of letting him loose on some canvas and entering him for next years Turner prize.

Gosh, look at the time better get back to work...
