Basically, its another collection of pointless links mostly nicked
from other blogs
Is That It?
Well, no, one day, I hope to break free from the bonds of having a day job and spend my time
floating round the med,
knocking up the occasional track for a cool label. Till then, this is my only outlet for
my compositions.
If you like Progressive tracks with nice breaks, you might like to listen you my latest, finished creation...well,
actually, its my only
*finished* creation, Celestial.
Download the MP3, Or stream
it.
The excellent vocals (in case you're wondering) were taken
from a track by Loreena
McKennitt called 'The Mystics Dream'.
One of the problems I have is actually finishing a track... No stamina y'see ;) I've got round this (sorta) by
stuffing all my unfinished
tracks into
Acid and creating one long mix. Whilst unfinished, they also represent the best stuff I've produced to
date...without sounding
self-congratulatory, its easily as
good as any of the other mixes...but just pure, homegrown Roguetrooper. Enjoy...(and play loud) Clicky Streamy Clicky downloady
The track I'm working on at the moment is a bit of a departure
for me. Normally I don't like long intros, but the beginning
to Gravity developed into this dark, broody soundscape. Its
a full 4 mins till any proper percussion kicks in which sounds
a long time, but its just right for the track (currently running
at 12 mins). Anyway, you can Stream the MP3 hopefully...
or download it(11Mb)
Heres what happens when you use Acid Pro as an mp3 sequencer..nearly an hour of beats n breaks.
Have a listen to Methodical or download it.
Want some more? heres another with Leftfield and
Hybrid (to mention a few). You
can download this too if you like.
Think I'm going to have to find a more permanent home for the mixes and stuff. judging by the amount of stuff I'm
churning out of the
Triton... Anyway, heres the Adam Freeland stuff mix from below on the blog...nice trancy, break filled mix that
hardens
somewhat towards the end when Joujouka arrive..However, its still only 135BPM and doesn't disrupt the flow too
much... Same as usual, you
can stream it or
download it...beware though, its
20Mb. Sounds best about
4am Sunday morning. Enjoy.
I was looking through my mp3 collection the other day and came across some depeche mode stuff I never realised I
had. Perfect excuse to
mix a few tracks up in acid and give the Basildon boys a breakbeat flavour. Its still a work in progress at the mo,
but I've since discovered
that DM and Breaks were made for each other. Have a listen and you'll hear what I mean. Download or Stream

I had a flash of inspiration at about 3am this morning. Normally I would have slept on it till the morning but its been ages since I did anything remotely musical so I decided to seize the moment and put a few sounds together with Absynth, fruity loops, Reaktor and Acid 3. Heres the result. It still needs tidying and mastering, but I'm quite pleased with it so far. Its called Gravity and you can either Download the MP3 (11Mb) or stream it with realplayer
Ever walk past an old door and think Hmmm....that looks like the entrance to hell. Now you can warn others by posting photos at The catalogue of UK Entrances to Hell
Finally, the Christmas break has arrived. As of 1630 today, I've got nearly 2 whole weeks off... I'm quite excited.
First on the agenda will be to go and pick Jessica up from her mums. Shouldn't be too bad today as her uncle Paul has kindly volunteered to come along for the ride. We take it in turns to have Jessica over at Christmas so she'll be here until the 27th. Jessica has just had her school photo done.... As a result, I'm calling an immediate halt to ALL Thornton children growing up....except Alex...at least for a bit.
Alex is now about 13lbs and slept through till half past five this morning. I'm not breaking out the champagne just yet, but if he does the same tomorrow, there'll be much woo-ing and yay-ing from me and Wendy. Next stop, baby rice.
I have quite a few friends who work for BAESYSTEMS and normally, Christmas e-cards / festive shockwave thingys are in abundance but an evil force has curtailed any frivolities this year as they contradict the Acceptable Use Policy or they're 'not work related'. Step forward CSC (the company who looks after BAE's IT). Seems like the board have decided that their current problems can be attributed in part to the 'fact' that too many staff spend too much time chatting on the companys newsgroups and emailing 'stuff' rather than working out that the Nimrod wing box wont fit on all the fuselages because of the difference in tolerances to which the original comets were built. When I left 2 years ago I said I'd be amazed if the thing ever got off the ground...I do hope they prove me wrong as Wendy still works there.
Friday is fast approaching and theres very little work going on (naturally). I always loved playing Atari's Lunar Lander as a nipper. I used to believe that, as in The Last Starfighter, the game was connected to some NASA junior space command thing where young astronauts were selected by their ability to do well at the game. Things have moved on a bit since then and it now appears that we have monkeys doing the job.
Christmas Studies O Level Exam... This has been done by a girl I know (well, sorta.. We used to frequent the same newsgroup when I worked for BAESYSTEMS). Anyhoo, its been picked up by The Guardian no less... Well done Sarah!. She also likes cats, a lot and created this inspired site, MESSYBEAST
Ha ha ha... this is excellent! The pinnacle of my blogging career. I'm so proud!
Like practically every other blogger, I've got a passing interest in who's coming and having a look etc so I got myself a tracker from eXTReMe Tracking I've just been looking at this weeks stats and someone came to my site via google using the search ref "do sloths have opposable thumbs"
I'm SO happy....I've got a lovely wife, an amazing new son, a gorgeous daughter and people coming to my site looking for answers about sloths thumbs... Life doesn't get any better than this!!
Turning out to be quite a busy day skive-wise. Been playing this cool asteroids remake most of the morning. Lets hear it for having a monitor no-one can see!!!
Jessica was here at the weekend again and she still has no idea what she wants for Christmas...oh except for a game called 'Stare'. Great... 1 board game... Woo!
Anyway, I thought it would be interesting for her to document our 170 mile trip back up to her Mums in Whitley Bay on Sunday afternoon in pictures...so here they are. I should warn you though, Jessica seems to have interpreted 'take some pictures of interesting stuff' as 'take as many pictures of sheep as you possibly can'. There are no titles, If you want to make some up, be my guest.
BTW, Please don't sue me for the tunnel photos Mr Murdoch... :¬)
Quick update on that cool DNA Javascript trials bike game. Its had a bit of a facelift and it also appears that the tracks change every week or so. Excellent fun!
Wendys folks very kindly offered to get me GTA : Vice City for Christmas. As it happens, they asked Wendy to get it for them from Play.Com as its quite a bit cheaper. Anyway, yesterday, said game lands on the doorstep, and before Wendy could whisk it up to her folks for wrapping, I secretly played it.... for about 4 hours last night.
There's only one word that does the game any justice....Awesome! Easily the best game I have ever played...Practically thrashing the previous so called 'best game ever', Metal Gear Solid 2 (while very good) into a bloody pulp.... can't wait for Christmas Day ;¬)
Wendy took Alex to the baby clinic the other day to get him checked out. He's now nearly 12lb and 7 weeks old today. Seems like an age ago since we were at the hospital. He's perfected his winning smile, which I'm sure he's going to use to great effect in later life to wrap his mum round his little finger. He's also prefected his aim and seems to be able to soak me from any direction when he's having a kick about with his nappy off. Thats my boy!!!
I've been meaning to take some more photos of him, but haven't had time, though thankfully Wendy has so there should be a couple more in the gallery soon.
At last! an end to the 3 hour nightly feeding ritual is in sight! Yay!!!!
For the last 6 weeks, Alex usually woke up to be fed at midnight, 3am and 6am. Last night though, as if some kind of switch had been flicked in his brian, he slept from 9am till 4am.... Aaaah, sweet 7 hour slumber.. how I have longed for your return...
I'm pretty chuffed with the little dude at the moment. He smiles quite a bit now, and as every parent know, you just melt. He's also gained some co-ordination over his limbs. His legs are developing and he'll try to stand up if you hold him. He can also bat the dangly things on his bouncer chair (well, 3 out of 5 tries anyway).
I'm actually off work today with the dreaded lurgi so I've been scooting through my collection of MPEG advert clips while Alex is asleep. This ad for Cossacks : Art of War (one of them there strategy type games) is pretty good....well, it made me laugh at any rate.
